Global Seafood Alliance: Building Trust in Seafood

GSA is a membership-driven organisation and global convener of seafood industry leaders, academia and NGOs to collaborate on cross-cutting industry issues. 

Through the development of its Best Aquaculture Practices (BAP) and Best Seafood Practices (BSP) third-party certification programs, GSA has become the leading provider of assurances for seafood globally. There are more than 3,000 facilities certified to BAP and BSP standards around the world, and the programs are endorsed by more than 150 retailers and food service operators worldwide. The organisation’s work addresses the full spectrum of responsibility, from environmental responsibility and social accountability to food safety. Established in 1997 as the Global Aquaculture Alliance, GSA is headquartered in Portsmouth, N.H., USA.

GSA advances responsible seafood practices worldwide through education, advocacy and demonstration. GSA convenes seafood industry leaders, academia and NGOs to collaborate on cross-cutting issues like environmental and social responsibility, animal health and welfare, food safety and more. GSA is a membership-driven organization. Members include certified producers, corporations and individuals. The United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and improve the lives and prospects of everyone, everywhere. The 17 Goals were adopted by all UN Member States in 2015, as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development which set out a 15-year plan to achieve the Goals.
