The Global Seafood Alliance (GSA) is an international, nonprofit trade association dedicated to advancing responsible seafood practices through education, advocacy and third-party assurances. GSA is the only organization capable of delivering full seafood production chain assurances through third-party certification programs. GSA standards address the full spectrum of responsible seafood practices, including environmental responsibility, social accountability, food safety and animal welfare.

GSA’s Seafood Processing Standard (SPS) was developed with input from non-governmental organizations, academia and industry experts and ensures that responsible practices are being used at seafood processing plants. SPS is the only seafood-specific processing plant standard in the world and is applicable for both farm-raised and wild caught seafood. More than 150 retail and food service operators worldwide source from plants that are certified to SPS.

SPS has also been benchmarked by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI), a third-party organization that has created one of the world’s most widely accepted benchmark documents for food safety programs. To attain SPS certification, a plant must undergo an annual audit performed by a third-party certification body.
